VERIZON’S IPHONE MOST POPULAR IN US IN FEBRUARY

Ever since it was announced, Verizon’s iPhone had aroused tremendous interest among mobile phone users in the United States. VERIZON’S IPHONE MOST POPULAR IN US IN FEBRUARYA recent report from comScore revealed that at the end of February 2011, Verizon’s iPhone emerged as the most popular cell phone model in February which subsequently boosted Apple’s iOS market share in the country from November 2010 to February 2011.

Android Still Surging

The report also revealed that despite popularity of Verizon’s iPhone, market share of Android continued to surge in the nation. Android’s market share witnessed a growth of 7% to touch 33% in the US smartphone phone market while Apple’s share rose from 25% in November to 25.2% in March. Meanwhile, share of Research in Motion (RIM) dropped below 30% for the first time to 28.9%.

Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 did not do any better either with the share of the platform falling from 9% to 7.7%. Recently Nokia has announced its alliance with Microsoft to bring out cell phones running on its mobile operating system and through this alliance both Nokia and Microsoft expect to resurrect their declining fortunes.

The report also revealed that in terms of mobile OEM’s, Apple’s share rose to 7.5%, RIM’s share dropped slightly to 8.6%. Samsung led the market with a share of 24.8% while Motorola’s share dropped to 16.1%. LG was in the second spot with a market share of 20.9%.
